Well, I was very pleased with how this turned out. At first, I used an actual photograph of a TEAC VU Meter as the bottom layer. Then I began building the upper layers modeling them as close to the original image as possible. Finally, when I had finished all of the upper layers, I deleted the original image leaving layers I had created above it.
