Crossfilter Synthesis
A few weeks ago I posted a tip for creating a "shimmer" effect. The jist of it was to crossfade between to sounds in realtime using a MIDI controller.
I've been experimenting with this approach. Crossfading two sounds can be kind of boring, the shimmer effect notwithstanding. I've been thinking about how to make it more interesting.
I thought it might help to open the filter of one sound while closing the filter of the other. The crossfade is accomplished not by modulating the amplitudes of the two sounds but by modulating the filters instead. Maybe this would make it sound more natural and sonically pleasing.
